About Mendoza, Argentina

Mendoza lies in the central western part of the Argentine territory, at the foothills of the Andean cordillera.  Founded in 1561, this important Argentine city is the regional metropolis of the zone of Cuyo and has undergone important commercial, industrial, and cultural development. Mendoza is also a center of tourism near the Andean mountain range ans Mount Aconcagua, the highest peak in the North and South American continent.

Mendoza is a spotlessly clean city with wide tree lined streets and well cared for parks and squares with a pleasant atmosphere. Mendoza has a laid back pace with a number of cosmopolitan cafes. You would never know that Mendoza was a desert town unless you were told there is irrigation that runs along all of the main roads and fountains that are showering water in every main plaza you are never far from running water.

Mendoza has numerous wineries that produce fine wines of the highest quality that are exported throughout the world. You are able to visit many of these wineries and try their wines.

Mendoza's proximity to the Andean Mountain Range has developed Mendoza into a great destination for adventure tourism with activities such as: trekking, rafting, mountaineering, skiing during the winter season, astounding views for photographic opportunities, and many other adventure activities.

Mendoza has a number of shopping centers, hotels and lodging accommodations, numerous restaurants, shops selling regional products, and a large number of ice cream parlors. The city is lively during the day but really comes to life at night with an abundance of bars, restaurants, and cafés that overflow onto the sidewalks along Av Aristides.

Mendoza is able to offer a large number of possibilities to the visitor with the cosmopolitan life in the city along ecological, adventure, and natural tourism.

An immersion course is challenging, yet highly effective intercultural experience.  Morning lessons are complemented with cultural and leisure activities in the afternoon.  Students are given 20 hours of group lessons each week or one-on-one lessons and a homestay with a local family.  The Spanish classes operate throughout the year.

* Group classes 4 hours each day Monday - Friday.
* Classes start every Monday throughout the year.
* Classes run from 8:30am to 1:00pm and are divided in two different modules; from 8:30am to 10:30am and from 11:00am to 1:00pm.  From 2:00pm to 4:00pm there are afternoon activities.

Accomodations in Mendoza

For total language and cultural immersion the homestay is best, in the homestay you will be sharing a home with a host family who is carefully screened.  Homestays include private rooms with half board.  Check-in to your homestay has no restrictions but check-out time is 10:00am.

There is also an option for a shared apartment that includes a single room and access to a kitchen and common spaces.  No meals are included in this option.  Check-in has no restrictions but check-out time is 10:00am.

One of the characteristics of the immersion program is that it offers extra classroom activities in the afternoons.  There are always 2 options:  one activity free of charge and another activity at a low price.  For the weekends we recommend visiting or doing an excursion to one of the places of touristic interest in the Mendoza area.
