About Playa Dominical
Playa Dominical is located on Costa Rica’s beautiful Central Pacific coastline, the small village of Dominical is a surfer’s
paradise where waves can reach over 10 feet high. This is an experienced surfer’s beach, Dominical is located approximately 105 kilometers
south of Playa de Jaco in Puntarenas province. Attracting surfers not only from across the country, but from all over the world,
this village is also a great place for those who do not surf it is a great place to lie back and enjoy the various activities
and water sports found around here.
Playa Dominical a tiny coastal town approximately 45 kilometers south of Quepos and the beautiful
Manuel Antonio National Park, Dominical is a 4 km long beach strip, with a few hotels, lodges, resorts and restaurants in the area.
With its beautiful background of lush green forests and palm trees, this beach is also a great place to bird watch or take a canopy
tour.
With near perfect weather all year long, Dominical has warm temperatures during the day and a cool ocean breeze by night. Dining
is a fabulous experience in Dominical, especially if you love seafood. There are a number of local restaurants or "sodas" in the area,
which serve everything from fresh lobsters and shrimps to delicious crabs and fish.
While swimming here is near impossible with the
strong swells and rip tides, one can kayak off the coast or enjoy some diving or snorkeling opportunities in the area. Horseback tours
can also be arranged to the nearby Nauyaca Waterfalls, or one can visit the Marino Ballena National Park, which is home to a number
of marine mammals like turtles and whales that come here seasonally to mate and nest. If you like, you can take a short day trip to
the lovely Caño Island just off the coast. This island is considered one of the best adventure diving spots in the world and is home
to an impressive array of underwater marine life.

Our Playa Dominical campus has
both school lodging as well as homestays. Lodging at the school is in shared cabanas on the campus grounds and each cabana has room
for two or three students with a private bath and every student receives breakfast in the main building at 8:30am.
The host families
are located in nearby beach communities south to the town of Dominicalito . Walking to the campus takes between 10 and 35 minutes
depending on the host family location. Free van service is provided for those outside of a 15 minute walk each weekday morning. Free
van transportation is provided back to your host families in the afternoons and evenings after any activities sponsored by the school including
medical visitations. Inexpensive local bus and taxi service is also available, although no taxi service is available late in the evenings.
Our Dominical Campus also has a quiet attractively landscaped near beach cabinas known as Montanas de Aqua, on the outskirts of Dominical
that is available upon request. These cabinas are a 5 minute walk from the school and two minute walk from the main surfing beach.
Special larger furnished apartments are available for family use. The apartments give students a quieter study environment, than our
on campus cabinas, which are closer to all the activities of this beach community.
A limited number of air conditioned cabinas are
available at Montanas de Agua. At an additional cost of $50 per week. Those students wishing air conditioned cabinas should include
a request for A.C. in the "special requests" section of your registration form. Every effort will be made to secure one for you dependent
upon availability.
Please be advised that we cannot guarantee patient visitations due to the limited population in the Dominical Area. Patient visitors
vary by season, so contact us directly to better plan your clinic program.
