About Playa Manuel Antonio
Manuel Antonio is one of the most exclusive areas in Costa Rica just 4 miles south of Quepos.  It started out as a tiny village that had a beautiful National Park, Manuel Antonio National Park, next to it.  This park has been described as a tropical paradise. It is one of the most beautiful parks in the country and the most popular, with locals and foreigners alike.  It is small only 682 hectares however it epitomizes everything tourists flock to Costa Rica to see: stunning beaches, a magnificent setting with islands offshore, lush rainforest laced with a network of easy to walk trails, and wildlife galore. There is good chance that you will see monkeys (howler, white faced, and possibly squirrel monkeys), sloths, and coatimundis. Scarlet macaws do frequent the area however you may need a bit of luck to see them.

Despite its small size and great popularity, Manuel Antonio has managed to remain one of the best spots in Costa Rica of natual beauty.  The rain forest and mountains literally meet the sea here and the ecosystem is teaming with land, sea and air species.  If there is one place to visit in this country and be assured of seeing animals in the wild, this is it.  Just a couple of hours walking, the park's trails are likely to present various colorful and majestic birds, white-faced monkeys, two and three-toed sloth, a variety butterflies, and the endangered squirrel monkey and a subspecies of the squirrel monkey native to Costa Rica are also frequently seen.  In all, over 100 species of animals and nearly 200 species of birds have been identified in this park.

Quepos, one of the main districts of the province of Puntarenas and a former banana plantation, has become a worldly famous town by sport fishing enthusiasts.  With the remaining of a sleepy fisherman's town, you can still feel the southern dusty hidden appeal, flowered with all sorts of cultural experiences.

The blue water of this coast provides exceptional challenge and excitement for seasoned, as well as occasional anglers.  International bill fishing tournaments in these waters routinely tie and break world records.

With one of the most stunning picture-postcard backdrops in the country, this is one of the places with the most lushness in Costa Rica, with spectacular white-grey sand beaches fringed by thickly forested green hills.  There is a huge variety of things to do such as:  walking the park's easy trails, whitewater rafting, horseback riding, fishing, sea kayaking, to name but a few.

Either by bus, by car, or by plane, getting to this small town should be one of the most exciting travel experience.  The scenic ride from San Jose has proven to be an unforgettable experience for our students.  You will witness everything from mountainous coffee plantations to crocodiles sunning themselves on the river's edge.  Along the way you will also experience the charm of small town life nestled gently in the tropical jungle.  You will pass through various picturesque towns such as La Garita, Atenas, San Mateo, Orotina, Jaco, Parrita, and the intriguing African Palm plantations.

Playa Manuel Antonio Campus

The Spanish language classes we offer at Manuel Antonio are renowned for there teaching methodology based on the holistic way of learning (Total Immersion Methodology).  The main goal of our school is to guide students towards the achievement of communicative skills that will help them interact in a more comfortable in Spanish.  With this objective in mind, the Manuel Antonio campus offers a high quality program consisting of four hour structured classes, from Monday to Friday, classes begin every Monday, from 8:30am to 12:30pm or 1:30pm to 5:30pm.  The campus in Manuel Antonio determines if you will be placed in morning or afternoon group.

Courses range from two to eight weeks, depending on the student's objectives.  Most students participate in the month program although 2 and 3 week courses are also available. To assure the highest quality education, enrollment is limited to 35 students per month.  Class size is small groups of no more than five students. This group size allows students to have a more intense contact with the language and a more personalized interaction with teachers and other classmates.  This allows for individualized attention from our staff. Because our methodology is based on the total immersion and the communicative approach, professors conduct the lessons completely in Spanish.

Classes begin every Monday of the year except on Costa Rican National holidays and the last two weeks of the year. In the case of Monday holidays, classes will begin on the following Tuesday. The following Costa Rica Holidays are observed by the school; January 1st,  Holy Thursday and Friday, April 11th, May 1st, July 25th, August 15th, September 15th, October 12th and December 25th. The school is not closed on Holy Thursday or Good Friday. There are no refunds for missed days because of holidays.

Local host families are carefully selected and provide two delicious meals daily, cultural interchange and laundry service. As a guest in a host family, you will be treated as a member of the home by sharing meals and experiences together and enriching your international cultural opportunities.  Students participating in the home stay program while learning Spanish in our Academia can be assured that their stay with a “Tico” family will prove to be an enriching linguistic and cultural Exchange.  The home stay program begins the first day of class, when your host family picks up at the school, and finishes the Saturday after your last class at 12:00 noon. An extension of this program is possible if cleared by the school.  As a guest with a Costa Rican family, you will be treated as one of the family members.  A fully equipped clean bedroom and laundry service will be provided with the home stay program.  One of the strongest experiences of learning and living with Costa Ricans is to feel their friendliness and warmth, given naturally.

Note:  The homestay option starts on Monday after class.  You will need to stay Sunday night in a nearby hotel.  There are a number of nearby economically priced hotels.  We will be glad to make recommondations.
